"Triple Fence"

April 12 - May 5, 2021

Systems of blinding spotlights, networks of steel cables, stakes of different heights, anti-climbing mesh and barbed wire are some of the virtually insurmountable obstacles faced by “undocumented” immigrants in their flight from misery.

Trapped as we are in the current pandemic and suffering from its tremendous consequences at all levels, unconsciously, many other previously existing problems have been clouded and relegated to the background.

This project puts the focus of attention on the political-social problems of migration and aims to represent the harsh and controversial reality of the triple fences through a creative universe in which images of great vitality harmonize, both for their disturbing value and for their charge. emotional and plastic fantasy.

Phase I of the work has been carried out using graphic techniques while phase II, although it also has new engravings, is extended with pictorial works on 3D canvases.

In this last phase, images of inverted combs and other structures that are being installed in the Valla de Melilla are included as a result of the reform of the border network that the government is carrying out in an attempt to soften the harrowing effects caused by the concertinas.

The public exhibition of this work, which has the 2021 Production Aid from the BilbaoArte Fundazioa Foundation and which will take place at Arteztu Gallery in Donosti from April 12 to May 5, 2021, will materialize in the covering of two of the walls of the gallery with the matrixes of the engravings and the 3D canvases chained as a simulation of a border framework, while the graphic work will be strategically installed on the rest of the walls of the exhibition room seeking the concordance of all the works, in a attempt to convey to the visiting public a feeling of perimeter enclosure that encourages each one to their own reflections.
